FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT DO YOUR BATHING AND GROOMING SERVICES ENTAIL, EXACTLY?
With any of our services we will: clip their nails, wipe their ears clean, and brush their teeth. Following those, we comb and/or brush them before the bath to loosen the coat (if necessary), then pop them in the tub for their shampoo. The shampoo we use is fresh-scented, naturally derived, and we carry a selection to suit any dog. We offer various types of baths depending on your dog's needs, and can include a coat conditioner, or dematting service for an additional charge. Once the bath is complete, we use ultra-absorbent chamois to soak as much water out of their coat as possible, and grooming services include drying with a high-velocity dryer to finish the process and prevent 'musty dog' smells. Beyond that, any grooming service will include a full body haircut; either clipper or scissor cut; depending on your dog's coat type and cut.
WHAT IS A DE-SHEDDING TREATMENT, AND WHY IS IT YOUR PRICIEST SERVICE?
A de-shedding treatment opens your dogs pores, to release loose hair & undercoat, and is something we generally recommend for a dog twice per year: once in the Spring, and again in the Fall. This is because these are the times your dog will 'blow' their coat, to grow a new undercoat for the approaching season. With a de-shedding treatment, we use special products and tools before, during, and after the bath, to loosen, and remove this hair; so it doesn't end up all over the house. It's a LOT of extra physical work in addition to the specialty shampoos and conditioners we use to produce a shed-free dog. For these reasons, it is our most expensive service. That said, when the de-shed treatment is complete, your dog will never have looked better or felt better to the touch. His or Her coat will be soft, lustrous, and free of loose hair; and their skin will be moisturized and invigorated, with blood-flow freshly stimulated through multiple full-body rubdowns with a rubber curry brush. Don't be surprised if your pup is happy, bouncy, and in a great mood after a de-shedding treatment; after all, they just got their hair and nails done, AND a full body and scalp massage while we worked! That kind of treatment makes anyone feel great!
WHAT IS A COAT BRIGHTENER (VANTABLACK OR BLUING) AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
A coat brightener is used on white (Bluing) or dark/black-coated dogs (Vantablack). With either treatment, the products we use have special, naturally-formulated cleansers, to release the oils, dirt, and debris that dull your dog's coat. These products are specially formulated with minerals and pigments to help your dog's coat look it's very best. The pigments in the shampoos we use are very mild, and will not effect patches of other color on your dog (i.e. Vantablack will not 'grey' a white dog,or stain the tub or patches of other coat colors; nor will Bluing 'grey' a black dog, or in any way bleach other colors in their coat). These treatments simply make whites whiter, and darks darker, while providing much-needed moisture and conditioning for these specialty coat types.
WHY DO YOU BASE YOUR PRICES ON WEIGHT AND NOT BREED?
The short answer: For the sake of simplicity. Our 4-tiered approach to pricing makes it easy to ensure consistent pricing for all our clients.
MY REGULAR RETAIL GROOMER CHARGES LESS THAN YOU DO; WHY IS IT MORE WHEN YOU'RE COMING TO MY HOUSE?
There are a few reasons:
When you take your dog to a groomer, you're one of at least half a dozen customers being juggled at any given time, so personal relationships and trust in your groomer is almost non-existent. Part of what you get with our service is personal service; someone who knows you and your dog, and genuinely cares that you're both taken care of properly.
When we come to your home for the aforementioned personal service, your dog is our only focus; unlike the brick & mortar salon where they're compensating for lower prices with lower-quality and higher-volume. The personal, undivided attention we provide results in a better groom, and a happier pup, who's also groomed in an hour or two versus 4+ hours at a traditional salon.
Traditional grooming experiences are traumatic for a dog. There are lots of other scared, unfamiliar dogs there releasing fear pheromones, and barking themselves hoarse, all the while at least 1 dryer motor is screaming away in the confined space deafening humans and dogs alike; AND they're stuck in a strange steel box for hours on end, being alternately manhandled by people they don't know... for a creature with complex emotions, a nose and hearing as sensitive as a dog's, it's a nightmare. Our service sidesteps that trauma, while increasing the overall quality of the groom. Your dog will look and feel better, and they won't need therapy or an attitude adjustment afterwards.
